Oral Histories from UA Residents

On October 2, 2023, Nelson French describes life as a student in Upper Arlington in the 1930s & early 1940s. As an elementary student, Nelson attended the Waltham Road school (otherwise known as the Barracks School) which was a temporary structure where today's Devon Road pool sits. His reflections on our community's early schooling and social life, along with the impact of WWII, are priceless stories to share. Thanks to our partnership with UAHS students in Amanda Fountain’s class, his oral history is captured for generations to come.

HISTORY OF THE GOODIE SHOP

Whether cinnamon sticks or smile cookies are your favorites from this iconic UA bakery, everyone can enjoy this video interview of The Goodie Shop’s co-owner Debbie Smith. Debbie shares behind-the-scenes stories, important events, and personal revelations in this oral history recorded in April 2023. This on-going oral history project is possible only through our partnership with UAHS teacher Amanda Fountain and her students (esp. Josh & Claire for this recording) as our technical team and as a guiding force in the process.
