Dr. Martin Peter Sayers was a pioneering pediatric neurosurgeon, a world-renowned and pathbreaking innovator who established and headed the Ohio State University College of Medicine Department of Pediatric Neurological Surgery and who was Chief of Pediatric Neurological Surgery at Columbus Children’s Hospital.

Additionally, Pete was President of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons; President of the Neurosurgical Society of America; and Chair of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.

Marjorie Garvin Sayers was a historical (founder and President of the Upper Arlington Historical Society); author and editor ; painter; and homemaker. Marjorie was a community leader and was Chair and Editor of the first comprehensive history of Upper Arlington and the history’s second edition.

This couple led and represented Upper Arlington and The Ohio State University in countless ways: from compiling the first textual history of Upper Arlington – a community Pete’s uncles (King and Ben Thompson) founded – to serving as Grand Marshals of the Upper Arlington July 4th Parade to being integral, founding members of Canterbury Village to passionately supporting the Upper Arlington Public Library System. Pete and Marjorie always advanced Upper Arlington and the community’s interests: moving the community forward as an inclusive, leading American suburb.
